Sabine Pereyre is associate professor in the Department of Bacteriology at the Bordeaux University Hospital and in the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Bordeaux in the "Mycoplasmal and Chlamydial infections in humans" research department. As a hospital practitioner, she is responsible for the mycoplasmal diagnostic department.
Her research field is focused on molecular detection, molecular mechanism of resistance to antibiotics, host-pathogen interaction and epidemiology of human mycoplasmas. She was involved in the genome sequencing, annotating and analysis of the human urogenital species, Mycoplasma hominis. Current researches address the interaction of M. hominis with human dendritic cells on one hand, and epidemiology of M. pneumoniae, a human respiratory mycoplasma, on the other hand. Molecular typing methods based on VNTRs and SNPs are currently in development for this species responsible for respiratory tract infection outbreaks worldwide.
