          Professor Richard Light is an internationally known pulmonary physician.  Dr. Light attended medical school at Johns Hopkins University and subsequently did his training in internal medicine and pulmonary diseases at that institution.  Dr. Light is presently Professor of Medicine at Vanderbilt University in Nashville, Tennessee. 

          Dr. Light is the editor of 10 books of which the two most famous are Pleural Diseases and  Chest Medicine,  both of which are in their 4th edition.  He recently edited The Textbook of Pleural Disease in conjunction with Dr. YC Gary Lee.  Dr. Light is best known for his work in pleural disease.  He developed Light's criteria for the separation of transudates and exudates more than 30 years ago.   Subsequently, he has published many papers concerning the pathogenesis, diagnosis and management of pleural disease.
