Rainer Weber, M.D., DTMH, is a graduate of Zurich Medical School. He performed
his residency in internal medicine at district hospitals in the Canton of
Aargau (Switzerland) and at the University Hospital in Zurich (Switzerland),
and his infectious disease specialty training at the University Hospital in
Zurich and at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention in Atlanta, USA.
He obtained the Diploma of Tropical Medicine and Hygiene at the London School
of Tropical Medicine. He is Professor in Infectious Diseases at the Zurich
Medical School, and Acting Head of the Division of Infectious Diseases and
Hospital Epidemiology at the University Hospital in Zurich, Switzerland. He is
the President of the Swiss Society for Infectious Diseases (2003-2005).
Dr. Weber's research interests include opportunistic parasitic infections,
particularly microsporidia and cryptosporidia, as well as clinical aspects,
treatment and pathogenesis of HIV infection. He is a member of the Swiss HIV
Cohort Study. He has authored over 120 scientific papers and has written 30
review papers and book chapters in all of the major textbooks of infectious
diseases.
