Dr. Plourde is a graduate of the University of Ottawa Medical School. He
performed his internship at the University of Ottawa and his residency in
Internal Medicine at the University of Manitoba. He completed a fellowship in
Tropical Diseases at the University of Toronto and a fellowship in Infectious
Diseases at the University of Manitoba and the University of Nairobi.
He is Medical Director of Integrated Tuberculosis Services, Healthy Sexuality
and Harm Reduction Services, and Travel Health and Tropical Medicine Services of
the Winnipeg Regional Health Authority.
Dr. Plourde's academic interests are focused on community development
initiatives in challenging sociopolitical settings, namely Haiti, where he
travels annually at the invitation of a community on the outskirts of
Port-au-Prince, to support a primary/middle school, a childhood nutrition
program, and economic development as well as leading integrated
interprofessional health care teams where teaching primary care clinics are
managed alongside Haitian health care providers.
Dr. Plourde is the recipient of several teaching awards from the University of
Manitoba Medical School and was the first recipient of the Mentor of the Year
Award from the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada (Western
Canada Region) in 2000. He has several peer reviewed publications and book
chapters, and has performed several International Health consultancies in
sub-Saharan Africa, the Caribbean, and India. In 2010, he received the Dr. Jack
Armstrong Humanitarian Award from Doctors Manitoba. |
