Dr. Rao is a medical graduate of Delhi
University, New Delhi, India. She completed her Internship and Residency in
Internal Medicine at George Washington University. She did her post-doctoral
fellowship in Infectious Diseases at Baylor College of Medicine and University
of Pittsburgh. She is certified in Travel Medicine and oversees an
International Travel Health Center as its medical director.
Her research interests include
Healthcare-associated infections, musculoskeletal Infections with special
emphasis on prosthetic joint infections and chronic osteomyelitis. She has
published over fifty publications including abstracts and book chapters. She
has given over 250 lectures at various medical centers. She has received
numerous awards including William M. Cooper, M.D., J.D. for excellence in
teaching and the Jeanette Wilkins Award for the best clinical paper at the
Musculoskeletal Infection Society in 2001. She was elected as president of the
Musculoskeletal Infection Society, 2003-2004. She has been cited as one of the
America’s Top Doctors from 2001 to 2005 by Castle Connolly Medical, Ltd., New
York. She was featured in the May 2005 issue of Pittsburgh Magazine as one of
the top doctors in her subspecialty in the region.
