        Dr. Nandini Shetty qualified from St. John’s Medical College & Hospital, Bangalore, India in 1979. In 1983, after 3 years as an anaesthetist , she chose to specialize in Clinical Microbiology obtaining her MD in 1987, the MRCPath in 1994 and FRCPath in 2003. In 1999 she obtained a Diploma in Hospital Infection Control (DipHIC) from London University.  In 2004 she successfully completed her MSc degree in Epidemiology from London University. She is currently a DipHIC, MSc and FRCPath examiner.

        Dr. Shetty has extensive experience in the practice of clinical microbiology and infection control both in India and in the UK. In 1998 she was appointed consultant microbiologist working jointly for the NHS and the Public Health Laboratory Service (PHLS); now called the Health Protection Agency (HPA). She has been actively involved in the evaluation of laboratory tests for the accurate diagnosis of MRSA and in its molecular epidemiology. Her other research interests include the molecular epidemiology and rapid diagnosis of tuberculosis and C. difficile. She has several publications and review articles in peer reviewed journals and has contributed to book chapters notably Manson’s Tropical Diseases 21st Edition.
