Professor Grove graduated in medicine and surgery from the University of
Adelaide in 1967 and acquired a diploma in tropical medicine and hygiene from
the University of Sydney in 1968. He is a Fellow of both the Royal Australasian
College of Physicians (1971) and the Royal College of Pathologists of
Australasia (1987). He was awarded doctorates in medicine (University of
Adelaide, 1975) and science (University of Western Australia, 2003). He has
worked in Australia, the United States, Papua New Guinea and the Philippines.
His major research interests have included hookworm infection, filariasis,
trichinosis, strongyloidiasis and brachylaimiasis. He has published 120 research
articles, written many book chapters, edited “Strongyloidiasis: a major
roundworm infection of man” (1989) and written “ A History of Human
Helminthology” (1990). He is currently director of clinical microbiology and
infectious diseases, the Institute of Medical and Veterinary Science at the
Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Adelaide, South Australia.
