Susan M. Kellie, MD, MPH, is a graduate of Columbia College of
Physicians and Surgeons. She completed her training at
Beth Israel Medical
Center in New York City in Internal Medicine and Infectious Diseases in 1992.
After seven years in private practice, she joined the faculty of the University
of New Mexico School of Medicine in 1999 and completed a master’s degree in
Public Health at the University of New Mexico (UNM) in 2005. Dr. Kellie is the
Hospital Epidemiologist for
UNM
Health Sciences Center
and the New Mexico VA Healthcare system.
Her interests
include methicillin-resistant S. aureus (MRSA), prevention of
surgical site infection, and influenza. She oversees a large database of
digitally stored pulsed-field gel electrophoresis typing of MRSA isolates from
both facilities. As the only academic hospital epidemiologist in the state of
New Mexico, she has given numerous lectures to local groups and participates in
state-wide infection prevention collaboratives. She was named
Infection Control Educator of the Year for 2006 by Infection Control Today. She
was also awarded the 2005 Award of Excellence, by the New Mexico Chapter of the
Association of Professionals in Infection Control.
