Dr Sally Roberts is a 1989 graduate
of the University of Auckland School of Medicine. Prior to undertaking her
medical degree she trained as a Medical Laboratory Technologist at Middlemore
Hospital specializing in Microbiology.
She is a Clinical Microbiologist
and Infectious Diseases Physician at Auckland City Hospital and is the Clinical
Head of Microbiology at LabPlus, Auckland District Health Board. She was
appointed as an Honorary
Clinical Senior Lecturer in Department of Medicine, Faculty of Medicine & Health
Sciences in July 2008 and has previously held a similar post in the Department
of Molecular Medicine.
Dr Roberts has been on a number of
New Zealand Ministry of Health working groups including the MRSA Guidelines
Working Group (2002), Scientific Advisory Group for the National Health
Committee on antenatal HIV screening (2003), Chair of the National Antenatal HIV
Screening Implementation Advisory Group (2005 onwards), Pandemic Influenza
Technical Advisory Group, and Tuberculosis Working Group. She has also a keen
interest in medical education and is a member of the Royal Australasian College
of Surgeons Board of Basic Surgical Training (Pathology Committee), Royal
College of Pathologists of Australasia Microbiology Advisory Committee and the
Vocational Training Committee for Pathology Training in the Auckland Region.
Her research interests are in
rickettsial diseases, in particular murine typhus. In recent years she has
published on staphylococcal disease and on healthcare associated infections.
