Dr. Itzhak Brook is a physician who specializes in pediatrics and infectious
diseases. He is a Professor of Pediatrics at Georgetown University Washington
D.C. and his areas of expertise are anaerobic and head and neck infections. He
has done extensive research on anaerobic and respiratory tract infections and
infections following exposure to ionizing radiation. Dr. Brook served in the US
Navy for 27 years. He is the author of six medical textbooks, 105 medical book
chapters and over 700 scientific publications. He is an editor of three and
associate editor of four medical journals. He is the author of the book "In the
Sands of Sinai: a Physician’s Account of the Yom Kippur War". He is a board
member of the Head and Neck Cancer Alliance. Dr. Brook was diagnosed with throat
cancer in 2006 and underwent laryngectomy in 2008. Since that time he has become
an advocate to improve patient care and prevent medical errors. He authored the
books "My Voice, a Physician’s Personal Experience with Throat Cancer" and "The
Laryngectomee Guide". Both books were endorsed by the American Academy of
Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery. He currently writes and lectures about
these topics. Dr. Brook was the recipient of the 2012 J. Conley Medical Ethics
Lectureship Award by the American Academy of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck
Surgery.
