Carl Erik Nord is Professor of Clinical
Microbiology at the Department of Laboratory Medicine at the Karolinska
University Hospital of the Karolinska Institute in Stockholm, Sweden. Dr Nord
received his doctor of philosophy in microbiology and medical degree from the
Karolinska Institute.
Dr. Nord’s research interests include anaerobic bacteria, human normal
microflora, surgical infections, clinical trials, probiotics, antimicrobial
resistance mechanisms, antimicrobial prophylaxis, and treatment.
Dr. Nord is an active member of the Swedish Medical Society, Scandinavian
Society for Antimicrobial Chemotherapy, European Society for Clinical
Microbiology and Infectious Diseases, Infectious Diseases Society of America,
International Society for Infectious Diseases, and several other international
societies. He is past president of the European Society of Clinical Microbiology
and Infectious Diseases, past treasurer of the International Society for
Infectious Diseases, and past president of the European Laboratory Medicine
Association. Dr. Nord is on numerous editorial boards including Clinical
Microbiology and Infection, Clinical Infectious Diseases, Lancet Infectious
Diseases, and International Journal of Antimicrobial Agents. He has
also authored 650 publications and has edited 38 books.
