 Dr. White is a graduate of Indiana University where he received his M.D.degree. He completed his Internship and residency in internal medicine at the University of Washington and his fellowship in Infectious Diseases at Yale University School of Medicine. He has received numerous honors including:

               Magna cum laude, 1977; AOA, 1980; M.D. with highest distinction, 1982; John Hickman Award, (Outstanding student in Internal Medicine), 1982; Award for outstanding editorial contributions to the Journal of Travel Medicine, 1997; Award for excellence in education and excellence in research, BCM-Dept. of Medicine, 1998; Recipient of 2 Fullbright & Jaworski L.L.P. Faculty Excellence Awards in Teaching, 2003; Outstanding Faculty Educator-Dept. of Medicine-BCM, 2004-2005. He is currently on the editorial board for Infection and Immunity and the Journal of Infection.

               Dr. White has a long-standing interest in parasitology, tropical medicine, and AIDS. He is the past president of the American Committee on Clinical Tropical Medicine and Travel Health (the clinical group of the American Society for Tropical Medicine and Hygiene) and Assistant Editor of the Journal of Travel Medicine. His current major research focuses on host parasite interactions in parasitic infections.

               He has published over 100 peer-reviewed publications as well as numerous textbook chapters.
